Hugo Says Hello

Welcome to my page children

I can't wait to tell you all about my adventures in the Owlets Nursery and Owls class. We have such fun in our lessons. I will also be adding photos of my adventures very soon, so that you can see what I've been up to.

Mrs Black sometimes lets me go on special adventures with the children. I can even go home with them for the weekend, so long as they tell the class all about our adventures. If you would like me to come home with you for a visit, please tell Mrs Black. If I'm a very lucky bear, she will arrange it for me.

Hugo’s Update

Week commencing 5th October 2015

Hello everyone.

The children have been learning all about babies this week and Jessica’s mum brought in baby Sophie to see us so that we could ask her questions about how Sophie has grown and changed.  Baby Sophie smiles a lot and really enjoyed visiting us.

In Understanding of the World we tasted apple baby food, apple sauce and whole apple to begin to understand the sorts of foods babies can eat as they grow.  We really enjoyed this activity!

In Mathematics we have been learning our numbers to 100 and using the splat hundred square which you can also do at home by going to the website
http://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html

We have also been revising our 2-D shapes and learning the ‘Shape 2’ song on youtube.  I think the children will be shape experts when they leave Reception!

We are going to make salt dough babies, paint and display them in the style of Anne Geddes. We had great fun looking at the different ways she photographs babies and we have talked about our favourite way to put them up on our class display.

Next week, it is the ‘Pandas’ turn for show and tell on Thursday.Who will I be going home with this weekend?  Have a look at my gallery to see the photos!

Hello everyone.

Our focus this week has been all about skeletons.  We had a visit from Bertie Bones (who is Tallulah’s best friend) and learnt so much about our bones.  Did you know we have 206 bones in our bodies?  I’m not sure if that is the same for teddy bears?

We have also had lots of super stories such as ‘Funnybones’ and we made our own skeleton collages to match the ‘Funnybones’ story.  They make a wonderful display on the writing board in the classroom.  Each skeleton has a personality of its own.  Bertie Bones has his own song which you can sing along to at www.youtube.com/watch?v=e54m6XOpRgU.

In Mathematics we have been learning our numbers to 20 and beyond using the splat hundred square which you can do at home by going to the website
http://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html

I am so excited because I am going to a very special wedding this weekend. Find out all about it next week on my ‘Hugo’s friends’ page!

Welcome back everyone.

We have had such a fun start to the Autumn term with our new friends who have joined us after the Summer.  Everyone has settled in really well.

In Mathematics we have been learning how to count to twenty and back through fun number songs and games. We are now becoming experts at this! We enjoyed this song and you can sing it at home at www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VLxWIHRD4E.

In our first couple of weeks we will be talking about our famlies such as who we live with, how many people are in our home and what we do when we go home after school.

This week we have drawn lots of lovely pictures and tried to write some words on the theme ‘All about Me’.  Mrs Black is very impressed with us.  She is so impressed that she has given us a reading book each and a keyword sheet to practise at home.

I am in Mrs Black’s utility room at the moment waiting to go for a swim in her washing machine. Hopefully I will be all fresh and clean ready to go home with someone at the weekend. Who will it be? Find out next week!

Our book this week is Jasper’s beanstalk and the story has taught us about all the things that plants need to grow.  We made our own seed packets to take home with seeds to plant in our gardens at home. We are also going to pot up beans at school and hope that soon we will have beanstalks to plant in the allotment.  Mrs Black found some very good plant games and quizzes on the website:
www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/5_6/growing_plants.shtml. You can play these at home too.

This week in ICT we are learning how to enlarge our writing in ‘word’ and make it another colour.

Hello everyone.

What an exciting week we have had!  It all started on Monday morning when we suddenly heard a very loud spaceship noise.  Charles declared it an emergency and we all ran out into the playground.  There crashed in the snow was a little spaceship and a tiny Beegu alien!  We knew who he was because we had read all about him in our ‘Beegu’ book last week!  We carefully carried him into the classroom and looked after him until Friday when his mummy and brothers landed to take him home.  They had been searching the solar system for him all week.

Beegu taught us lots of interesting facts about space. Over the week we watched ‘Journey to the Edge of the Universe’ on youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVIigCMhCZc and the children were very good at identifying the planets.

In Mathematics we have been talking about addition as a combination of two sets of objects and writing the corresponding number sentence.  The children are really good at this.

Next Thursday is Tigers’ ‘show and tell’.Who will I be going home with this weekend?  I can’t wait to find out.

Hello everyone. To start our ‘Space Week’ we read a super book called ‘Beegu’ by Alexis Deacon which has lovely pictures and a really touching story.  We will be doing some more work using this book next week.

Every morning we listened to ‘the Solar System’ song on youtube and looked at non-fiction books about space during registration.  We can tell you the names of the planets in the solar system and we are learning to put them in order.  We also re-enacted the planets revolving around the sun which was great fun!  You will be able to see the photographs on the website soon.

In Mathematics we have been learning about 3-d shapes and their properties. We are now becoming experts at this!

In Maths, we are learning how to make sensible estimates of a number of objects in a group.  It is quite tricky and I think I am going to have to practise a lot more.

The book we have been reading this week is “Oi, Get Off Our Train”.  It is a book the children have really enjoyed and it is about endangered animals.  We are thinking about which animal we could adopt this year. Read my page next week and we will tell you more!
