Woburn Lower School

...At the heart of the community

Governing Body

The Governors of Woburn Lower School are a committed team who want to make a positive contribution to all aspects of children’s education and development.

The role of the Governing Body is fundamental to the effectiveness of a school. Time and time again OFSTED (the national inspection body for schools) has noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management – including by the Governing Body.

Almost anyone over 18 years of age can become a Governor. There are no particular qualifications or requirements, other than a willingness to give time to the role and a capacity for working with other people.

Our role or function is not about fundraising; neither is it about cheerleading for the school – though we might do both those things.

School Governors provide strategic leadership and accountability to Woburn Lower School. We appoint the head teacher and are involved in the appointment of other staff.

We are also responsible for managing the school’s finances and ensuring that the premises are maintained and in good repair; and we importantly work with the head teacher to make tough decisions regarding balancing the schools resources.
